Why am I not recommending colors? Honestly, almost any color in any position works. The block in Electric Quilt was quite loud, all bright solid colors, not my taste at all. I pulled fabrics from my scrap basket and really liked how my block came out. (Both shown below) First things first, let's get the diagonal half squares done. Directions and diagrams on how to make DHSs can be found here if you need them. First, mark your background 3 1/4 inch squares diagonally through the center. (This will be a cutting line when you are finished.) Place a two different color 3 1/4 inch squares right sides together. Sew on either side of the drawn line, exactly 1/4 inch from the first line. Cut this square in half on the cutting line. You will now have two diagonal half-squares, which should measure exactly 2 7/8 inches. Press all to the darker side of the block. ![]() Middle row first, you only need one of these. This is row two and/or four, which will go on the middle row. You need two of these. Pay close attention to the direction your diagonal half square goes, it does make a difference. You may sew these to the middle row now if you would like, but again, pay attention to the direction of your diagonal half square. ![]() And the last two rows go like this, again pay attention to the direction your diagonal half squares go. ![]() And they go on the top and bottom of rows 2, 3 and 4. Your finished block should measure 12 1/2 inches. ![]()
