Center Four Patch

This is the Center Four Patch. A quick and easy block, that will give you a cute quilt, or a good filler block for a sampler quilt, or a good go between block. It makes a terrific masculine quilt, something quilters are often asking me for.

To make one finished 12 inch Center Four Patch you need:
Two 4 1/2 inch squares of brown and yellow
Two 2 1/2 inch squares of brown and yellow
Four 4 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch strips of both greens
(or one long 19 inch 2 1/2 strip of both greens)

Let's take care of the greens first, or whatever color you chose to use. If you decided to cut 4 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch strips, just sew them together. If you decided to cut the longer strip, sew that together, and then cut it into 4 1/2 inch units. Both ways you end up with four 4 1/2 inch squares.

Your center four patch is easy, just sew one pair of the brown and yellow squares together, press to the dark, then repeat. Now sew them both together and you are done. It should also be 4 1/2 square.

All that is left is putting it together. Your finished block should be 12 1/2 inches.

Here are two blocks made by friends
