Courthouse Steps

For this block you will need one color for the center block, and 6 other fabrics.
For one Courthouse Steps block you need a 3 1/2 inch center square, and strips cut 2 inches wide from your chosen colors. I don't precut my strips, but trim them as I go along.
Your finished block should measure 12 1/2 inches. Measure carefully, cut carefully and sew carefully, and you won't have any problems.

Start off with your 3 1/2 square and the lightest of your colors. Place a two inch strip right sides together on one side of your 3 1/2 inch square, and sew leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Trim even with the center square. Press away from the center square.

Then add another strip at the opposite side. Trim even with the center square and press away from the center square.

Now move on to the other sides of the center square and repeat the steps above.

Continue adding, first one side then the other.

Continue around until you are finished.

Always press away from the center square.

Almost done.

Finally, a 12 1/2 inch Courthouse Steps block
