Decision time -- Want to take a shortcut? Those strips you cut can be put together to make your nine patch squares the easy way. Lay an B strip on top of a C strip, right sides together and sew them together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Then carefully cut them into 2 1/2 inch segments. You should get eight pairs and two 2 1/2 inch squares of color C. (If you don't want to take the shortcut, cut all your strips into 2 1/2 inch squares.) Now you can put together your two nine patch units, just a little bit differently than you may have assembled them in the past. Instead of rows of three squares, you will have sections of two squares, and on singe square all by itself. But it all adds up to a nine patch which is the goal.       ![]() Next you get to make two snowballs, and no cold fingers. Take one of your 6 1/2 inch squares and lay a marked 2 7/8 inch square on a corner, any corner will do since you will be doing all four of them. Sew right on that line from edge to edge, and then cut leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press to the darker fabric. One corner down, seven more to go.       ![]() Sew together two snowball units and a nine patch units as shown, ![]() And then sew those together into your Delaware's Flagstones. Your block should measure 12 1/2 inches when you are done sewing. ![]() without the owner's permission.
