Dublin Steps

For a 12 inch finished Dublin Steps block you need:
From your background cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares, two 2 7/8 inch squares and two 4 7/8 inch squares.
From color one (blue) cut two 2 1/2 inch squares, two 2 7/8 inch squares and two 4 7/8 inch squares.
From color two (green) cut 6 2 1/2 inch squares.

Place a background and color one 2 7/8 inch square right sides together. Mark a line diagonally from corner to corner, and then mark a second line 1/4 inch on either side of that line. The first line is your cutting line, and the second two will be where you sew. Sew on the two sewing lines, cut on the cutting line, and open up your squares. Press to the darker side.
You now have two 2 1/2 diagonal half squares. You need to make a total of four 2 1/2 inch diagonal half squares.

Repeat all the same exact steps with your 4 7/8 inch squares. You need to make a total of four 4 1/2 inch diagonal half squares
Using your background and color two 2 1/2 inch squares, make
three four patch squares. These should measure 4 1/2 inches.

Take the smaller diagonal half squares you made from the background and color one, and
assemble them with a 2 1/2 inch background as shown here. You need two of these units.
Using the left over 2 1/2 diagonal half squares, put them together with
your 2 1/2 inch color one squares as shown here. You need two of these units.

Now take those two units and put them together. This should measure 4 1/2 inches.
Make two rows like this

And one row like this

Now you can sew your blocks together. Sew them as shown here
