Garden of Eden

For a 12 1/2 inch Garden of Eden block (12 inches when sewn in a quilt) you need:
Two 5 1/2 inch squares and eight 3 inch squares of your background (B&W print)
Two 5 1/2 inch squares and eight 3 inch squares of your red
Two 5 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch strips of the black
One 12 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch strip of white

If you have trouble sewing a straight line, mark a line diagonally from corner to corner on the wrong side of each one of your 3 inch squares.

Now place a marked red square right sides together with a 5 1/2 inch background square. Sew on the line you marked. Then trim leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Press to the darker fabric. Press to the darker fabric. Repeat on other two corners.
Now repeat the same with all the 5 1/2 inch squares.

Sew a 5 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch strip of the black between two of the 5 1/2 inch squares as shown. Repeat.

Sew to either side of the center strip as shown

Your Garden of Eden block should measure 12 1/2 inches.
