Jacks Delight

For Jack's Delight you will need:
From your background fabric cut One 6 1/4 inch square for the center square and two 5 inch squares, cut in half diagonally to make 4 large triangles for the corners
From the hot pink cut five 3 3/4 inch squares. You will cut ONE in half diagonally for the side triangles.
From the purple cut five 3 3/4 inch squares. You will cut ONE in half diagonally for the top and bottom triangles.

We are going to make diagonal half squares from four of the hot pink and four purple squares. First, mark the lighter squares diagonally through the center. (This will be a cutting line when you are finished.) Place two different color squares right sides together. Sew on either side of the drawn line, exactly 1/4 inch from the first line. Cut this square in half on the cutting line. Press to the darker color. You will now have two diagonal half squares.

Next you need to sew these together into pairs, but be careful, two to go in one direction and two to go the opposite direction.

Sew 2 pairs of your diagonal half squares to opposite sides of the 6 1/4" center square. Make sure they are going in the right direction!

One way to remember is that all the same color will surround the center square.

Use the remaining two pairs of diagonal half squares and sew pink and purple triangles on each side. Follow the diagrams carefully to make sure they are going in the right direction and that you use the triangles in the right place.

Add those units to the top and bottom of
the center square.

Now add the background corners. You may need to
square those corners back to 12 1/2 inches, I did.
