Mosaic

For a 12 inch finished Mosaic block you need:
From your background (white) cut six 3 7/8 inch squares
From color two (yellow) cut two 3 7/8 inch squares
From color three (blue) eight 3 7/8 inch squares

You will be making all diagonal squares for this block. Take the 3 7/8 inch squares of blue and background, place them right sides together. Carefully draw a line down the center, corner to corner, diagonally across the block. (This will be a cutting line when you are finished.) Now if you have a true 1/4 inch foot on your machine, you can sew on either side of this drawn line. If not, you will have to draw a second line on either side, exactly 1/4 inch from the first line. These will be your sewing lines. After you have sewn on your sewing lines, you will cut this square in half on your cutting line. Don't forget to trim your dog ears. Your finished diagonal half-squares should measure exactly 3 1/2 inches.

Repeat with all of your squares.
You need 12 like this and four like this

Now assemble in rows.

Make two rows like this, the top and bottom of the block.

And make two rows like this, the middle two rows of the block.

Now assemble your Mosaic block as shown here.

Here are the size squares you need to make many different sizes of Mosaic blocks.
         3 inch - 1 5/8
         6 inch - 2 3/8
         9 inch - 3 1/8
         10 inch - 3 3/8
         12 inch - 3 7/8
Remember, these are finished sizes, after the block is sewn in the quilt.
