Next Door Neighbor For the Next Door Neighbor block you will need:       From the background cut four 3 7/8 inch squares           and four 3 1/2 inch squares       From the brown cut three 3 7/8 inch squares       From the green cut two 3 7/8 inch squares       From the yellow cut two 3 7/8 inch square First, mark your background 3 7/8 inch squares and two of the yellow 3 7/8 inch squares diagonally through the center. (This will be a cutting line when you are finished.) Place a brown and yellow square right sides together. Sew on either side of the drawn line, exactly 1/4 inch from the first line. Cut this square in half on the cutting line. You will now have two diagonal half-squares, which should measure exactly 3 1/2 inches. Press all to the darker side of the block. You will need a variety of diagonal half squares. From the 3 7/8 inch squares you need two diagonal half squares each: Two green and background, two yellow and background, two brown and background, two brown and green and four brown and background. Following this diagram, assemble your Next Door Neighbor block. It should measure 12 1/2 inches when finished. Here are two quilts made using the Next Door Neighbor block. The first one is just straight set, no changes at all. That would make a nice lap quilt for some fellow. The second quilt is slightly different, alternating blocks are truned, so the diamonds in the centers are all one color. That quilt would make a nice baby gift shower.
