Chatters I have Met in Person

My son Jonathon likes reminding me how hesitant I was of using the internet when we first dialed up. I said I would never find anything that interested me on there. He suggested I look up quilts on a search engine, which I did. A Yahoo search for quilts took me to several places, one of them being Fabric-Stash.com. I noticed a line that said something like “Chat On Line” and the rest is history.
After a few months of chatting a few of us decided to get together and try chatting face to face. I invited a few of ladies from Maryland and Delaware to get together. To be safe, I invited them to a local restaurant. When I realized they were all just quilters like me, I invited them back to my house! Here we are at that first meeting, June 1997.

Bang, Me, Nine Patch and Tkferdi

We had such a great time that day; someone suggested we try to get a bigger group together. Since I had a hotel and a quilt shop in the same building it was suggested that I look into having a weekend quilt get together. It was all arranged, and the first Quilters Retreat was held in November 1997.

If we look like we were having fun, we were!!!

Here are a few more chatters who
attended the first retreat:
Shirl, Ann, Carol, Pansy and Wizard.

Of course we were not the only group getting together. In California there was a group that got together as often as they could, and a group in New England started getting together on a regular basis. And we took every opportunity we could to meet other chatters.
Here is a group that met up in April 98 at the Lancaster PA Quilt Show.

MAK, Ellie, TK, Laura, Bang
Me and Laurie

November 1998 was the second annual Quilters Retreat.
Below are a few of the chatters from that.

In April 99 my family went to Knoxville Tennessee on vacation,
and of course I met up with some chatters.

Fribble, me, Lavinia, and Spike

June 99 Michael and I went to Michigan
for a family wedding, and to meet a more chatters.

After the wedding, on the return trip, we met even more!

Here I am with Peachy in Punxsutawney, PA.
That dark blob in the middle is a wooden groundhog, sorry you can't see him.

And I met up with Bonnie and her son Greg.

We had a great time together in Clarion.

Here are Greg, Michael and Bonnie.

I got to meet with Hetty in the fall while she was in
town learning some of our local history. It was a short visit,
too short in my opinion. I did get to see her again in
Lancaster, but that visit was way too short also!

In 1999 I moved the quilt retreat up to Lancaster which offered a lot more to the quilter than Lewes ever could. That year there were quite a few chatters in attendance. (Other ladies too, but you can see their photos on the retreat pages.)

Maureen and Maria

Jeanette, Diane and Debbie

At the Lancaster Quilt show in 2000 I got to meet the other Marge.

Me, Debbie and Marge

A few weeks later I was at Disney World and got to meet up with Dee.

At the 2002 Fall Retreat I got to meet Donalyn,
who had been my secret sister a year previous. It was
great fun getting to meet her, although I really felt like
I already knew her!

Most recently I had the pleasure of meeting Dawn and her family. We took pictures, quite late at night, and they were not very complementary to either Dawn or myself, so I'm not sharing! Dawn and I will take better photos next time, and we know there will be a next time!!
