November Retreat Project

This year's project is the Triple Irish Chain. You may go scrappy or not, it's entirely up to you.

In a traditional Irish Chain you will need four fabrics, Fabric 1 for the background, Fabric 2 for the center chain, Fabric 3 which is the second chain and Fabric 4 the outer chain.

This is a non-scrappy triple Irish Chain.

This is block one
Fabric 1 is the white,
Fabric 2 the yellow,
Fabric 3 the blue,
and Fabric 4 the green

And this is block two.

Here you see much more of
Fabric 1 the background,

and no Fabric 2 at all.

If you are making a Scrappy quilt, instead of four different fabrics, you can use four different colors. Use all the same color for each number.

This is my scrappy Triple Irish Chain

This is my block one.
Fabric 1 different white-on-whites,
Fabric 2 was all different yellows,
Fabric 3 all different blues, and
Fabric 4 all different greens.

This is my block two

I chose to have all of my Fabric 1 different white-on-whites, Fabric 2 was all different yellows, Fabric 3 all different blues, and Fabric 4 all different greens. While this worked, if my scraps had permitted, I would have had more contrast in the blues and greens, but I had to make do with what was in my scrap bin. (You can see it came out just fine!)

Approximate yardage
Crib or Lap Twin Double/Queen King
Size before borders 31 X 52 52 X 94 73 X 94 94 X 94
Fabric 1 - background 1 1/4 2 3/4 3 1/2 4 1/4
Fabric 2 - center chain 3/4 1 1/2 1 3/4 2 1/4
Fabric 3 - second chain 1 2 1/2 3 3 3/4
Fabric 4 - outer chain 1 2 2 1/2 3 1/4

Please note the word approximate! That does not include any borders, or the backing and binding. If you are making a non-scrappy quilt, you may want to get extra for those. And if you are going scrappy, you may want to look for a border that includes your colors. (I always get extra, just incase, which I guess is why I have such a large stash.)

You COULD also go totally scrappy, have just one main color, Fabric 1 the background, and then all the other colors totally mixed up. It makes for a beautiful quilt. (Hopefully I will have one to show you soon!)

So first thing to do is decide what color you want where in your quilt. The background shows up the most, although what some people see as the main color is Fabric 2, the chain. But remember, it is YOUR quilt, and you can make it your own way!

Cost will be:
Doubles (two people sharing one room) $310 per person
Private room $450

Retreat package includes accommodations, class, a group dinner and Sunday brunch.

A $100 non-refundable deposit per person is required when you make your reservation.

To reserve a room in any retreat, you must send a $100 non-refundable deposit. This will reserve you a space in the conference room, and a room to sleep in. I will not match roommates, so if you do not have a friend to accompany you, you must pay for a private room. If one roommate cancels, the remaining roommate shall be required to pay for a private room, or provide their own paying roommate. For this reason, you should choose your roommate carefully.

Payment in full must be received by September 1, 2008. Payment must be received on time or the reservation will be cancelled and all deposits forfeited.
Cancellations must be in writing. Email is fine, but if you do not get an acknowledgement within three days you should email again and/or snail mail.
Cancellations made after September 1st are transferable to another person, but not refundable.

I have to pay my bills on time, and I would appreciate it if you would do the same. I set the retreat due dates so your payment arrives in time for me to pay my bill. There will be a $20 late charge for any late retreat payments.
